TERMINATED
A downloadable game for Windows
TERMINATED
You are the sole on-call sysadmin for NexGen Systems Corp. Fifty networked subsystems. One operator. No backup.
Alerts are already coming in.
---
TERMINATED is a real-time crisis simulator where the entire game is made of Windows dialog boxes. There are no sprites, no textures, no game engine. The UI IS the game. Every alert is a real popup with real buttons, dropdowns, text fields, and checkboxes. You click, type, and tab through them as fast as you can while the network burns around you.
50 subsystems are wired together in a dependency graph. When one degrades, its children start to bleed. When it dies, they die faster. The cascade is inevitable -- the only question is how long you can hold it off.
HOW IT WORKS
- Alerts spawn as actual Windows dialog boxes on your screen
- Each one targets a subsystem and drains its health while it sits open
- Some need a button click. Some need a code typed in. Some need the right dropdown selected, the right checkboxes ticked, the right values entered across multiple tabs
- Resolve them fast and the subsystem heals. Ignore them and it takes damage. Answer wrong and it takes more
- As the System Integrity Index drops, alerts spawn faster, timers get shorter, and harder alert types appear
- Systems that lose all health are TERMINATED -- permanently. Their dependents begin to cascade
- When every slot on the grid reads TERMINATED, the screen goes black
FEATURES
- 50 interconnected subsystems across 8 clusters (Networking, Auth, Mail, Storage, Compute, Monitoring, Application, Database)
- 6 alert types that escalate with difficulty: simple acknowledgments, confirmation codes, dropdowns, checkbox grids, multi-tab network reconfigurations, and modal dialogs that block everything else
- Live dependency graph that shifts from green to red as the collapse spreads
- Dynamic difficulty -- alert frequency and complexity scale with system health and elapsed time
- Cascade mechanics -- parent failures drain children, and global entropy ensures nothing survives once collapse begins
- The entire soundscape is built from Windows system sounds: the warning dings, error chimes, and critical stops that every sysadmin has heard at 3 AM
- Built with pure Win32 API. No MFC, no DirectX, no middleware. Just windows, buttons, and dread
CONTROLS
Mouse and keyboard. Tab between fields, Enter to submit, click to select. Speed matters.
REQUIREMENTS
Windows 10/11. No install needed -- single executable, no dependencies.
